Story
We are a group 25 mums that are all local to Coventry and Warwickshire. On the 25/11/23 our mums, dads and babies are walking 5 Kilometers together for our babies who have all been born prematurely or sick within the last 2 years.
On the 8th February 2023 our twins, James and Poppy, were born at 31 weeks weighing 3lbs 10oz and 3lbs 3oz. After the waters broke round James at 27 weeks of pregnancy (PPROM) his lungs had not been surrounded by fluid for the remaining weeks and as a result they were dry and stiff. He was placed on a ventilator for 6 days. He was on oxygen for the remainder of his time in hospital (totalling 70 days in all) and for two further months once we were able to take him home. Poppy was able to leave hospital on day 35 once she was off oxygen and feeding well. We feel very fortunate to have benefitted from the incredible treatment and care they were provided with by the hospital and the community nursing team overseeing James once he came home.
The walk is a great way to celebrate how far they have come and raise money to support families who are going through the same experiences. We know first hand how difficult they are. We are walking in the ‘little lights’ campaign so setting off at 3pm armed with glowsticks for when it gets dark!
