This is my Mum and Dad. They grew up in a solid working class northern family in Sheffield and have worked all their lives to support their family and enjoy their lives. They were youth leader volunteers supporting their local Boys Brigade. They have always been very active people spending their lives camping and walking in the countryside across Britain. My Mum was always a little mischievous and my Dad was the sensible one who had to keep her under control of her. They got married in 1953 and are still completely devoted to each other.
But now they both have Alzheimers. My Dad is in the early stages where he forgets about conversations and repeats what he has just been saying. My Mum is in the latter stages where we are unable to communicate with her and is lost in her own internal world.
Alzheimers doesn't discriminate, black or white, rich or poor, we can all suffer with this condition. It is painful to watch the people that we love to suffer in this way.
So what will I be doing?
I am aiming to lose 4 stone in weight by September 2011. I am now 18st 4lb and aim to get to 14st lb. You can see by the photos how much I need to lose weight. Please take a little time to sponser me in this task. All the money that I will raise will go to the Alzheimers society to help them to study this condition.
Update; I have now lost 2 stone and I am half way there. i have also entered the Spartan Race in October by which stage I hope to be fit enough to complete. Have a look at this link to see what I wll be facing, http://www.spartanrace.com/ . Please keep donating, while I am losing weight and feeling fitter, those with Alzheimers continue to deteriorate.
Further update: Its now Septemebr and I have lost the 4 stone that was my target to lose. It's been hard work with lots of excercise and dieting but I have managed it. I will continue to lose more weight and keep up the excercise and challenge myself with new events. The Spartan race is on the 2nd of October so I can't stop now. But more importantly the efforts go on to keep my Mum and Dad well and provide the care that they need and deserve to enable them to lead the rest of their life together in their home and not haqving to be seperated and placed into care homes away from each.
Please give to this fantastic charity who do so much good work! Thankyou.
