Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I met Jim about 20 years ago, when he came to work at Mil-Ver Metals. It was a bit of a novelty for the teenage me; having this distant cousin turn up with the same name as me! It was nice getting to know Jim and over that time of my life, and that family bond was forged. Jim stayed on for many years after I left the old family business and we saw each other very infrequently, but whenever we did meet, that familiar feeling took hold and his smiling face & jovial nature always made me feel uplifted.
It was a shock to hear Jim had fallen ill last year and was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I had heard he had struggled through December and was in a great deal of discomfort, so I was worried I was intruding when I went to see him in January. Thankfully, whilst clearly weakened, Jim’s pain relief was under control and he was absolutely on form. I spent some quality time with him talking about how he was treasuring his time left with his wife, Gerry, children and grandchildren, and, as he always had in the past, he made me laugh. He was a good man and I am glad I got the opportunity to know him and say goodbye to him.
Jim passed away in February, and his family asked for donations to be made to Macmillan. I’ve supported Macmillan many times in the past and I am glad they have been of support to Jim and his family. I thank you in advance for helping me reach my target for them on this occasion.
