Story
Just to update you all on how we got on we were up at 6am and at the foot of the mountain at 7.25. After a quick warm up and a coordinated stretching session with Jake we went over the first style to begin the accent proper! After only 1hr we arrived at half way loch (which is a bit less than half way) but this is where the rain started to pour and it was hard to see where we were going. We battled on and began the zig zags up, it was at this point a few of us started to find it hard going and each zig or zag was a new challenge. We plodded on and started to see the first trig point and we knew we were nearly there. Sadly the cloud was surrounding us and visibility was quite poor, but just good enough to make out the next trig point. Finally after 3hrs 15 we reached the summit and fatigue turned to joy as we posed at the highest point. After stopping for 20 mins to dine in the old ruin and a quick nip we headed down, mostly because it was freezing and we were wet and cold. As we left the highest section, as if by magic the clouds started to clear and revealed some breath taking scenery and the sun started to shine. As we continued down we were blown away by how spectacular it was, then out of the calm came a helicopter dropping off marshals for the race that was due to take place that afternoon. It got within a few metres of the path and nearly blew us down as we struggled past. After half way we made great time, mostly because the rain returned and we stopped taking photos. The decent took us 2 hrs. 25 in total and we visited the Ben Nevis pub for a well-deserved pint!
It looks like as a group we have raised about £2000 in total once we tally up all the off line donations and the support we have received from my friends and colleagues here has been incredible.
Thank you all so much for your support, I’m a bit sore but it has all been worth it!
