Story
As most of you may know our mother passed away at home from cancer on the 12th of June 2011, 6 weeks after being dianosed. If it had not been for the Marie Curie nurses (and the undivided help from our two aunts, Kate and Mary and sister in law Ciara) mum would not have been able to spend her last days with her whole family around her at home. These nurses provided the care and attention to mum throughout the night. We are indebted to the work they did and so we would like to give something back to them and to also dedicate something to the memory of our beautiful mother.
As a family we are undertaking fundraising events for this charity. Mary-Claire, Lucy, Sarah, Lucy's husband Fearghal and our cousin Emma are forming relay team 1 (team Margaret). The second relay team is as follows: Barry Mackle, Odhran McGoldrick, Brendan McGoldrick and Nicola McGoldrick. James is running the full marathon. This is all happening at the Belfast Marathon on 7th May 2012. I would be extremely grateful if you could sponsor us to complete this endeavour. There will also be more fund raising events organised which we will keep you informed of.
The money will be going to an extremely worthy and worthwhile cause and it is a cause that is extremely close to our hearts.
The Marie Curie Nursing Service gave my mother the opportunity to be cared for at home with all her family around her but still providing the same high standards of care which my mother recieved in hospital. This service is free to the people they care for, their families and carers.
Thanks to the generosity of people in Northern HSCT, the Marie Curie Nurses' were able to provide 21,053 hours of care for patients last year. But they need to raise £515,000 so they can continue helping patients in the area.
Thank you in advance for your contributions from all the McGoldrick clán.
