CHAS is a charity that provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people with life-shortening conditions. CHAS offers care in two children's hospices - Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch - and an at home service called CHAS at Home. Visit www.chas.org.uk
The idea to ride for charity in 2015 arose from a suggestion of a family friend who has supported me on more than one occasion with my adventures. I cannot begin to imagine the courage and professionalism it takes to work with families and children facing life-shortening conditions. It's humbling to think there are people who offer such kindness and hope in such circumstances. So I would like to try to raise donations for CHAS and the work they do.
I have been running for years and have never owned a road bike or taken cycling seriously. Some would say preparing for an 87 mile ride (which involves many climbs) in 3 months is a daft thing to do, and they are probably right. But thinking is sometimes over rated and I'm curious to find out why thousands of people become obsessed with cycling in their middle years - which I am officially within. I will be riding with a team of seasoned enthusiasts who can boast Land's End to John-O-Groat on their list of achievements, so the challenge is to finish, and to hold my own with the "pros".
Any donation at all will make a difference.
Thank you,
Jamie
