Story
Many of you will know that I started my fundraising last year with a target of £10000. I am almost there! Unfortunately Virgin Giving shut down before I reached my target. I am continuing here. Never give up on your goals.
On the 5th of April 2020, just before the peak of the first wave of the pandemic I was
diagnosed with head and neck cancer. I am a nurse, I had just got my promotion to
Matron. My world was turned upside down. My wife and 2 daughters world got turned
upside down. I have been through radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Chemo sucks. It
didn't get all the cancer. I had to have a radical neck dissection removing the tumor
and a load of stuff it was stuck to, muscles, veins and nerves. I am now back on my feet
and back at work. Above & Beyond are the charity for the hospital where I received all
my treatment. In the midst of a pandemic my treatment was excellent. The diligence
and the care of everyone that looked after me still makes me cry. I have always wanted
to run the London marathon. To do it the same year that I beat cancer is my challenge.
Please if you can help me give back to those that saved me and cared for me.

So this is no longer the year I beat cancer. A couple of months ago I found a lump in
my neck. After a load of scans which led to an excision and biopsy under general
anaesthetic, cancer was found still present in my neck. A further PET scan revealed it
has spread to my lungs and mediastinal lymph nodes. My cancer is now incurable. I
have started immunotherapy and hope that this will bring me some durability. Please
get busy living. Work hard do good. Every smile or kind word is like a butterfly flapping
their wings.....
