Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last April, completely out of the blue, my youngest sister Maggie was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Maggie was very health conscious, energetic, fit and full of life; she was an amazing sister, daughter, wife, mother and friend. It was devastating to see her deteriorate so rapidly from her diagnosis and although she fought with unbelievable strength, determination and bravery to beat this illness the odds were always stacked against her. She lost her fight on 25th February this year. Pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death but has the lowest survival rate of all cancers with only 3% of sufferers living beyond 5 years.
Maggie was only 43 years old when she died and has left behind two little boys aged 10 and 7. She had always taken great care of herself, eating healthily and exercising; she completed a triathlon in 2013 and at the time of her diagnosis she was training to do 'Tough Mudder'. She was the sunniest of people with an amazing smile; she was generous and kind yet could also be completely outrageous, she was great fun to be around.
In an attempt to do something positive during this difficult time - both in honour of Maggie’s memory and to support those trying to find ways to beat pancreatic cancer - myself and a number of family and friends, collectively known as 'Live Life to the Mags', will be cycling from London to Paris on September 23rd - 27th. We are trying to raise money to help in the fight against this terrible illness so other families will not need to go through the heartache we are suffering.
