Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As the father of 3 young children I would ask that if you can, please donate to this incredibly worthwhile cause and help prevent more deaths.
On sunday 10 August in the ultimate expression of a mid-life crisis I will compete in an Iron distance Triathlon. This is not for the faint hearted and will consist of the following:
A 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, followed by a marathon (26.2 mile run).
Having dabbled with virtually every different triathlon distance going in the past, including sprint, olympic & half ironman distance, I have decided to put my money where my mouth is and prove to myself that I can do this. It is the longest recognised version of triathlon currently out there.
However in order to make this event mean something, I want to take this opportunity to raise some money for a not so well known charity.
Last year, I was shocked to hear that one of my eldest son's friend's brother had passed away very unexpectedly at the age of 19 in his sleep due to an undiagnosed heart condition. Josh had been a very active, fit and healthy young man - playing rugby regularly for a local team. I did not know Josh but know his younger brother and other members of his family. He was a very popular young man as you can see from his website - http://www.joshmerrick.com/
The fact that this can happen to such a fit and healthy young man just shows it can happen to anyone. At least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people aged 35 and under die each week in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions. C.R.Y desperately require fund raising in order to continue to spread awareness and pressure the authorities into screening young adults to help prevent such devastating tragedies.
Thanks
Jimmy
