Story
On Sunday 24th March, I will be running the London Landmarks
Half Marathon for the Addison's Disease Self Help Group. This is the support group in the UK and Ireland for people with Addison's disease or adrenal insufficiency and their families. Addison's is a rare, chronic condition which can be life-threatening.
Around twenty years ago, my Aunt was diagnosed with Addison's disease and at the time there was very little information available about it. She discovered the ADSHG, and thanks to the support available from them has been able to live relatively normally ever since. She now devotes a lot of time to volunteering with the charity.
This is my first half marathon and I've set myself an ambitious target of running it in under 01:24:23 (4min/km). It's probably about 50/50 and I know a few of my friends enjoy a flutter so to raise more money, give me extra incentive, and just for a bit of fun I will take bets on whether I meet the target. For example, if you've originally donated £20, I will donate an additional £20 if I don't meet the target, and you'll donate an additional £20 if I do. Let me know in the comments or in a message if you want to take me up on this.
I'm running not only to raise awareness of this rare disease, but also to raise money for the ADSHG. Thanks very much for reading this and please give generously.
Every penny raised helps us support people affected by Addison's Disease, a rare disease with just 9,000 sufferers in UK and Ireland.
