Story
If you have arrived at this page, you probably either know me, know my wife Jo, or you just might have been lucky enough to meet our eldest son, Thomas.
Thomas will be 14 in August, he's an average teenager, he loves gaming on his X Box, he supports Ipswich Town. He is an Army Cadet. His favourite pass time is emptying his Parents bank account so he can wear the latest T shirt or some 'fresh trainers'. But he's not average, in fact he is far from average. Thomas lives every day of his life with half a brain! Yep, you read that right! November 15th will be Thomas's 10th 'Hemiversary'.
15 November 2012, Thomas underwent a Hemispherectomy at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. This extremely invasive surgery cured Thomas of his uncontrollable epileptic seizure's but has left him with left sided hemiplegia. A permanent disability affecting his ability to use his left leg and arm to their full potential.
It's incredible to think, our family, led by Thomas's indomitable appetite for life are now 10 years into a journey we never expected. Thomas's passion for life inspire's me everyday, his infectious laughter, permanent smile and wicked sense of humour leave anyone who meet's him wanting more.
10 years on, we still visit West Suffolk Hospital's Rainbow Children's Ward, Thomas continues to have a raft of appointments and still we are treated like family. The care provided is exceptional!
This year, I am lucky enough to have won a ballot place in the London Marathon. There is no commitment for me to run for a particular charity, I could turn up on 2 October, struggle round the 26.2 miles and go home again, but with Thomas's 10 year 'Hemiversary' fast approaching, we have every reason to celebrate the work of West Suffolk Hospital's Rainbow Children's Ward.
Of course, the world is full of requests for charitable donation's, if I don't raise anything I would completely understand, but I feel I can't allow this opportunity to pass by. If you can afford to give any amount, please do! Thank you!
