Story
I have been lucky enough to get a place in to the 2012 Virgin London Marathon. I have been fortunate enough to run the London Marathon both in 2006 and 2009 and other similar events, each time raising funds for the ABF. The ABF is such an important charity for both serving and retired soldiers. Some soldiers have given phenominal sacrifices helping to ensure the safety of those both near to them and at home. But the personal cost to them has been significant. Their lives are changed by physical disability and lengthy rehabilitation and adaptation required or psychological trauma which seriously inhibits a 'normal' life.
Whilst I am under no doubt just how much the physical and mental discomfort of the marathon will take on me. My discomfort will (hopefully) be over in a couple of days, for many of our soldiers it remains forever. Please donate now as much as you can to help support our soldiers.
We have seen a 30% rise over the past two years in applications from soldiers who have taken part in previous and current conflicts and we currently raise £7 million a year to meet this need.
As a result of Current Operations it is anticipated that the requests for assistance will rise significantly in the coming years. It is the aim of The Soldiers’ Charity to increase fundraising to £14 million a year by 2015 to be sure that we can help each and every soldier that needs our help.
