Story
This year; I will be running the Virgin London Marathon. After running and completing the event last year, I am still hungry for more.
The reason is simple, I recently was involved with a charity OASIS UK which is the brain child of Stephen John "Steve" Chalke, MBE who wanted to ‘pull down the curtain’ and create better lives for families in the UK who are underprivileged in the most basic of ways … the most prolific being unable to feed their children and provide the most basic of necessities, food(!).
It began when I was asked to host a charity evening in London, I began to research the OASIS UK and the work it does for these less fortunate families. The first result of my research told me there at 3 Million children across the UK that go hungry during the summer holidays as their families are unable or sometimes unwilling to provide a decent meal for their children. I am sure we all agree this is completely unacceptable. In this day and age for children in the UK to go hungry is (for want of a better phrase) completely horrific. Further more; the fact that most people don’t even know about it! SO; not only am I looking to raise money to help with all the amazing work Oasis UK so. I want to ensure that more people know of the problem and the solution OASIS are looking to offer.
OASIS was kind enough to let me train and run the 2020 London Marathon in their name, I hope to hit my target of £2000:00 which will literally change children’s lives for the better and also make sure the awareness of this cause keeps growing!
The London Marathon is said to be a challenge each person (who is able) should embrace at least once in a life time but only 1% of the population has tried and completed … so, for the SECOND time, I’ll take that challenge willingly for this cause. Training this year has been very hard! With a professional move to London in November and the time of year, this has been a whole lot more agonising than the pervious year. Early mornings (in the dark) … 3 Storms, making training outrageously difficult, physically and mentally challenging, late night runs in the cold and wet after a heavy commute and solid working day, trying to make sure I can complete the 26.2 MILES on the day for OASIS UK.
I am aware that a lot of you (friends and family) will have dug deep last year and given generously for MS UK which I ran for my mother Lynn Cazemage but if you can spare any of your hard earned this year it will change a life! Further more, I promise (mainly to my long suffering wife) to never do the Marathon again! Music to everyone’s ears I am sure!
