Story
In March 2024 I will be taking part in a trek through the wild and remote jungles of sumatra, camping outside in the rainforest with all the animals of the jungle.
Any support for this amazing charity is greatly appreciated by myself, my fiance sarah-jayne and the charity itself.
For the past 18 months my fiance sarah-jayne has been suffering with severe pain in her leg and knee and after many wrong diagnosis and missed symptoms by doctors and radiologists and even being told she was wasting NHS time by doctors at the A and E department she was finally diagnosed with ewings sarcoma in November 2022 after her private work appointed physio referred her for an MRI scan, (yes a physio could do what countless doctors could not).
Ewing's sarcoma (bone cancer) is among the rarest cancers and therefore the most difficult to diagnose and treat, unfortunately there is no known "cure" for this type of cancer other than extremely powerful chemotherapy, radiotherapy and finally extremely destructive surgery involving removing large parts of bone and replacing it with metal implants, and if that's all successful there will then be many months of rehab and further surgeries to repair the broken tendons, muscle and cartilage that the cancer will have inevitably destroyed.
Sarah-jayne is currently 3 sessions into the chemo and is coping remarkably well considering the circumstances and even through all of this she remains my rock, there is very little I can do to help sarah-jayne during this process other than be there to help and look after her when she's feeling unwell so I decided I would do something to help the amazing charity supporting research into this horrible disease.
After doing some research I was absolutely shocked to find that of all the cancer trust charities the bone cancer research trust was one of the most underfunded cancer charites, Of the roughly £55 millions donated to cancer research each year the bone cancer research trust received just 0.2% so I decided to try and do something to raise some money and awareness and I would appreciate any donation to this wonderful charity you are able to afford, even just £1 will make a massive difference and together we can help fund research so that one day nobody will have to suffer the pain that sarah-jayne and so many other young adults and children have to go through. Thankyou for reading and donating if you can, also if you would like to share this fundraiser to any socials please feel free.
The Bone Cancer Research Trust is dedicated to saving lives & improving outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer. Despite being small, they fund more research projects exploring primary bone cancer than any other organisation. Other large UK cancer research charities do not prioritise bone cancer patients, in 2019 just 0.028% of their research spend went to bone cancer – not even close to 1%!Last year alone, Bone Cancer Research Trust committed an incredible £807,824 to pioneering bone cancer research - to save lives!
