Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
St John the Baptist church is at the heart of our small village community. It is a beautiful building, largely rebuilt in the 1860's but still including some elements of the medieval church. It has very interesting tombs particularly of the Estcourt family who financed the rebuilding of the church in the 19th Century. It has a ring of six bells the oldest of which was cast in the 1420's, and a fine Victorian tower clock. The single manual Victorian organ is still in weekly use.
We have had to carry out repairs to the roof of the bell tower recently, and are about to embark on repairs and upgrading of our heating system. We also have plans to put in a lavatory so that the church building can be used for concerts, exhibitions and other events as well as our regular services.
As with many villages the church is at the centre of our community, but receives no external funding. I am one of the churchwardens and am planning to run the Paris Marathon in April 2023 with my son Hugo (who has graciously agreed to run at my pace!) to raise money for this excellent cause. It will be my first attempt at the distance.
