Story
My family have experienced this debilitating disease for over 20 years. For 15 of them we watched both my grandparents fight against their own minds and now 5 years later we live on with the memory of them. Now looking to the future I am determined that this will not be the case for my parents, myself or my future children.
My Nan, a bubbly and vibrant women, passed away in 2012 and suffered for a significant amount of time with the disease. I was only 11 but I can still remember the loss of her and her mind, even when she was still physically with us.
My Grandad, a stubborn but kind man, passed away 2017. His experience with the disease was quick but equally as harsh. We lost his quick wit and jam tarts in a matter of months. Both their losses left an immeasurable hole within our family.
I am running for the Alzheimer’s society so I can play a small part in defeating Alzheimer’s. No one should be afraid of growing old. No one should be afraid of their parents forgetting them.
Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any support is greatly appreciated!
