Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I really appreciate it!
Neuroblastoma (a type of cancer) has affected my family as well as my extended family first hand. As some of you may know, I was born with a Stage 1 Neuroblastoma in my right adrenal gland and was operated on when I was 5 weeks old. Luckily, my cancer was caught early and with the help, care and support of my amazing parents and staff at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, I was signed off after 2 years. Neuroblastoma affects around 100 children each year in the UK, about 6% of the total number of childhood cancer diagnoses. Neuroblastoma primarily affects children under the age of 5 years old however, it also can occur in adults. In comparison with the more 'well known' cancers, Neuroblastoma receives a small amount of funding from the overall 'pot' for research and more needs to be learned about this type of cancer.
Neuroblastoma has not only affected me and my family, but also my extended family. My stepmother's brother Miles Kemp was diagnosed out of the blue with a Neuroblastoma when he was only 23. He was a talent scout and had just signed a successful band to Sony Music. He enjoyed every second of his life and was often described by his friends as the kindest person they knew. He was so brave and fought very hard but tragically lost his battle 18 months later, leaving his friends, his girlfriend and family devastated.
I'm running in the Edinburgh Marathon on the 26th of May 2024 which is the second largest Marathon in the UK. I'm running to support Neuroblastoma UK. Neuroblastoma UK is a fantastic cancer charity that conducts research into the disease with the goals of improving current and future treatments, pushing forward with research to better understand the disease, improve survival rates and most importantly, trying to find a cure that ends this devastating disease entirely.
If you could please support me in anyway I would be extremely grateful! Any amount helps however small. This is very close to mine and my family's heart and as someone who has been lucky enough to have beaten the disease, I believe it's my duty to honour and hopefully help anyone who has unfortunately been affected in the past, now and in the future.
Thank you again for taking the time to visit my page!
