Story
As many of you know I have spent most of my time in Malawi since 2018 with the girls at Tilinanu Orphanage. Over time these girls have become my sisters and very best friends.
Recently government guidelines and social welfare’s advice regarding orphanages in Malawi have changed. They both agree that it is more beneficial for children to be raised in their home villages by a parent, relative or extended family member. However they still advise that charities/NGO’s should support children financially, continuing to pay for their education.
A reintegration programme has been put into place for our girls to return to their villages. However when Tilinanu management and social welfare officers visited the girls respective homes, most of them were almost inhabitable. This is when Alice and Nina made the decision that the best option for our girls would be for them to go to boarding school. As you can imagine, fees for 36 girls to go to boarding school comes at a very high price.
This is where I am asking for your help once again. To send a primary school girl to boarding school costs around £500 per year. To send a secondary school girl costs between £800-£1000 per year. For college students it is around £1,200 per year.
I appreciate that 2020 was an extremely difficult year for most people on the planet and that many people are struggling financially. If however you are in a position to contribute even the smallest amount to enable these girls to receive the education that they deserve, in a safe and happy environment I would be eternally grateful.
Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to help. You are amazing!!
