Story
We are taking on the Super 60 challenge for this World Autism Acceptance Week to help change attitudes, to transform lives and create a society that works for autistic people. After receiving such amazing support and raising almost £3,000 last year taking part in the Super 7 challenge we knew we had to take part again this year.
For those of you that don't know us, our youngest son Albie is 4 and was finally diagnosed with autism last September. He is non verbal, and uses pictures to communicate with the world along with squealing and humming. He is a happy and hyper but a vulnerable little boy, that struggles to cope with everyday life. Raising a child who is getting physically bigger, and more aware of not being able to always get across his needs and wants is inevitably tough.
As we attend specialised sessions/playgroups and chat to other parents from Albie’s SEN nursery in the same position, we realise how important raising as much awareness as possible is. There is support available in the community but we are stunned that still in this day and age there are times that we get looks, stares and tuts at Albie's noises or behaviour when we are out. The stigma is still very much there. All autistic children deserve to be given the same opportunity that every other child gets, and anything we can do to help this we will do.
So we have rallied up all our supportive friends and family, and will be taking part in the Super 60 challenge by 60 of us walking 6k! #60do6k
Thank you for taking the time to read our page and support us, any contribution large or small goes a long way so thank you very much.
