Each year, 7000 new patients walk through the doors of Weston Park Hospital. In 2011, one of my best friends Richard Pover, or Po as I know him, was one of those new patients walking through the doors. Po had been diagnosed with testicular cancer at just 20 years old.
From the minute Po arrived at Weston Park Hospital on the specialist teenage ward, the care was the best he could have asked for and the staff were amazing. However, despite all the hard work of Weston Park Hospital, in June 2013, Po lost his long battle with cancer and passed away, in his own bedroom at the hospital.
During his illness, Po was the bravest, most determined person you could ever meet. He would spend as much time as possible outside of the hospital and having fun. However, when this wasn't possible, Weston Park Hospital was there to care for him and when we visited he always had a smile and joke to make our day.
It is Po's bravery and positive spirit that has given me and a group of close friends the motivation and inspiration to raise as much money as possible for the incredible hospital that helped prolong his happy life and made his last moments as pleasant as they could be.
I hope that the money raised for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity can help lots of other people just like Po to receive the care and support that they need.
I will be giving my all to the 62 mile walk, walking from Sheffield to Tarporley through the day and into the night. Any money you can afford to donate to this fantastic charity would be appreciated.
Thank you.
