Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
As some of you may know, I work on a voluntary basis with Adults with learning disabilities at a weekly club called 'Gateway', which is affiliated with Mencap. We organise all sorts of activities for our members such as craft or music evenings, quizzes, football matches against local teams, x-factor nights and the favourite every term - the disco! As well as providing entertainment and the chance for them to socialise with other adults with learning difficulties, it also provides important respite care for their parents and carers. They love it, and I love doing it because you always see so many smiling faces!
As a result (and in a moment of madness) I have signed up to run the London Marathon in 2009 for Mencap. This is a charity that I give a lot of my time to, and really want to be able to raise money for as I see first-hand how Mencap benefits those with disabilities.
Mencap works with people with a learning disability, their families and carers, fighting to end discrimination and prejudice, and providing a wide range of quality services. There are around 1.5 million people with a learning disability in the UK: Learning disabilities have many different causes but are always lifelong. A learning disability can affect someone’s life in many ways, causing difficulties in learning, communicating or doing everyday things. A learning disability does not prevent someone from learning and achieving a lot in life, if given the right support, which, with your help is something Mencap can continue to do!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. I know times are tough so I would be very grateful for anything you feel able to give - every penny counts and all that! If you are a UK tax payer PLEASE Gift Aid your donation.
