Story
Myself and 3 other swimmers will attempt to swim across the English Channel from Dover to France. Our 'swim window' opens on 14th July. Wea re currently 4th wave, so with good luck and a following wind, we will be swimming on Saturday 17th July. Our swim was supposed to take place in May last year, but due to lockdown was postponed. We had 2 more opportunities to swim in September and October, however due to adverse weather conditions, again we were unable to attempt the swim.
The Channel Swim
This isn’t a challenge we’ve taken on lightly. It can be a dangerous swim with the low water temperatures hypothermia is a real threat (we expect the water to be anywhere between 15c to 18c), but there’s also jellyfish, sewage, ships, adverse weather conditions, possibly floating debris, and if recent reports are true, a pair of Orca Whales to navigate through!
Funding for charities has been massively affected by coronavirus, with many fundraising events being cancelled over the last couple of years. Having been given another chance to complete this swim and raise some money for them is very important to me, and your donation means that Saint Michael's will be able to continue to provide the vital services that help people with terminal illness to live and die well.
