Our story...

Our precious Kenzi Lee was diagnosed with the most serious of congenital heart defects before he was even born. At the 20 week scan, the consultant said it was the worst kind that he ever deals with and that Kenzi may not even survive birth. Processing this information was devastating.

Every step of the way, every scan appointment, Adam, and Gemma were told to prepare for the worst. It was heart wrenching watching them battle through.

Gemma contracted covid whilst pregnant and had to self-isolate, away from Adam, her two boys, and her mum who was her biggest support.

The weeks went by and Gemma grew bigger. The impending birth was faced with fear and dread. The consultant said if Kenzi survived birth, he would need palliative surgery immediately.     ## Gemma wanted to stay pregnant because Kenzi was safe where he was. ##

July 26th 2022 Kenzi arrived by caesarean section. Adam was with Gemma throughout. Kenzi was born struggling to breath but the little fighter was doing his best. He was taken to PICU. Gemma was waiting in a wheelchair for Adam to take her to see Kenzi. More devastating news. Gemma had covid again and couldn't see him. This felt like the last straw and it broke them.

This is where the CHSF stepped in. Adam was able to stay with Kenzi, was helped with the cost of parking, had access to a kitchen where he could get a hot drink whenever he needed, and was given vouchers for use in the canteen. These little things are huge at the times when you forget to take care of yourself. Finally Gemmas isolation was over and she was back with her precious baby.

The journey has been tough for them all, and it's a very long road ahead, but Kenzi is the happiest boy and his smile just melts our hearts.

We are raising money for the CHSF so they can continue to help these parents in the hardest times, when taking care of themselves is the last thing on their minds..
