Story
In September 2021 Jackie lost her beautiful, funny, clever niece Donna and that has devastated her family and her many friends and colleagues.
Donna was a frontline Child protection social worker for 13 years. She dedicated her young life to helping vulnerable children.
Tracey has witnessed the devastating effects of cancer on patients and their families during her 42 years of paediatric nursing and also personally as it took the loves of her life in husband Tony and brother Vincent.
We have known each other for over 40 years through Korfball (a form of mixed netball from Holland), playing for our club in Europe and representing GB in the 1985 World Games.
When our playing days came to an end we kept up our fitness as individuals. Tracey was cycling, going to the gym, spinning and participating in Park Runs. Jackie was pulling weights and swimming.
About 3 years ago we decided to run together and quickly realised how much easier it is when you have some company!
Since then we have participated in 10k's, a Richmond half marathon and now average 8-10 miles twice a week, thoroughly enjoying the experience and greater fitness.
The 'Deadwood Duo' are running the London Marathon (always an ambition for Tracey) in memory of Donna, Tony and Vincent.
We are sure they would be so proud of us oldies raising money for Children with Cancer UK and their families in this way.
The cancer path for patients and their families is so very hard and if we can complete this marathon the funds will make a difference. That is our inspiration.
Our hope is to raise £3,000 with lots of small donations from our network of friends and families.
Thank you so much for your support!
