Over 200 years ago, Sailors Society began due to a determined group of preachers and laymen who pledged to alleviate the worldly woes of distressed sailors in London.
Sailors Society now provides a lifeline for many seafarers across the globe. Our port chaplains and volunteers help thousands of seafarers, their families and seafaring communities each year; providing counsel, crisis support, disaster response, to name some of our services.
We depend upon the 1.5 million seafarers, to transport 90 per cent of the worlds trade; yet they are truly forgotten.
Seafarers can be far from home for up to 12 months at a time with 81 per cent having no internet at sea. In addition to this isolation, they are exposed to the ever growing threat of piracy and terrorism.
Many seafarers come from poor communities who are often the main source of income, so when something happens to stop them working things go horribly wrong.
We need amazing people like you to support this work.
