Story
Yes I’ve ran 5ks,10ks and a half marathon BUT this will be my toughest challenge yet!
On the 11th September last year I lost my big brother David just a few weeks before his 40th birthday. Sadly his fight with mental health became too much to overcome and he took his own life. David must have been in too dark a place for any of us to even begin to understand and his family and friends are only beginning to come to terms with this now.
David lived in Edinburgh and I had planned to run this year’s half marathon there; however I have not been there since his death and felt I wasn’t ready to complete such a daunting prospect on my own. I had a moment of inspiration in March and decided to recruit some friends to run the “Hairy Haggis Team Relay” 2011 in memory of David.
He was my hero, just like Big Brothers should be! Alongside several friends I hope to celebrate his life and we’ll be vrooming up to the start line in our Harley Davidson vests in his honour. I’m sure he’ll approve of our attire and along with your generosity will make him proud of his wee sister.
I would appreciate it if you could dig deep and sponsor us in aid of Scottish Association for Mental health in David’s memory. This will help keep my motivation and get us all through the 26.2 mile finish line. If we can help any other family avoid the heartbreak of losing a loved one then it will be money well spent.
Thanks
Jacqueline
Did you know that 1 in 4 people in Scotland will experience a mental health problem and every day in Scotland 2 people die by suicide by donating this allows SAMH to be there for all of them.
