Story
I would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of the wonderful people who donated to my ride in the Prudential Ride London 100. I can honestly say that it was the most physically and mentally challenging thing I have ever done and perhaps gave me a ‘glimpse’ into the world of those individuals with MS.
As a healthy individual I couldn’t begin to imagine how hard a simple task such as getting up out of bed and making it through the day can be. Getting up off the sofa to make a drink and possibly being exhausted by the time you have made it.
My discomfort really started at the 50 mile mark when we were stopped at the bottom of Leigh Hill for well over an hour. Having to kick start my muscles was agony and I imagined this is how individuals with the condition must feel in the morning getting up for work. The ride continued and I walked up the hill like many other riders, pretty numbed by what had occurred. (there had sadly been a fatality) We cycled on and the bottle necks started to build up as a consequence of both the delay and a number of other serious accidents. We were stopped several times throughout the rest of the ride such as at Dorking High Street and were instructed to walk (quite rightly for safety)So being on and off the bike was a killer, it was getting hotter and the muscles were seizing up in protest.
What kept me going was the fact that this pain I was enduring was going to end (unlike those with the MS ) and that I had made a commitment, as had all of those who donated to my ride.
So once again thank you for your encouragement and support and of course the very generous donations.
