We help premature and sick babies in the UK to give every baby the best possible future

Story

Whenever someone asks how many brothers and sisters I have the answer is always 5. Four brothers and a sister. It gets more difficult when people ask how old they are- 26, 22, 16, Jake would have been 15 almost 16 and 5. "Would have been".

Jacob was born at 27 weeks by emergency C-section, because of a placenta praevia. Despite being severely premature, and only weighing 2.7 lbs, he pulled through, thanks to the staff at East Surrey Hospital.

At just 10 months old, a tragic incident saw Jacob fight for his life for a second time, but sadly after 7 days, his battle was lost.

If it wasn’t for the doctors, nurses and heath care Jake received as he entered the world, we might not have even been lucky enough to spend the 10 months that we did with him.

With support from our Non-League football family, BOTN are hoping to top last year’s fundraiser, which raised a fantastic £2,970.98 for Bliss.

Bliss are a charity organisation who work together with healthcare professionals and families to ensure care for premature and sick babies is of the highest possible standard.

A preterm birth (one that happens before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy) is the number one cause of newborn deaths and the second leading cause of deaths in children under five. Globally, more than 1 in 10 pregnancies will end in preterm birth (and this number is rising). In the UK, over 95,000 babies are born prematurely and need specialist hospital care. This is 1 in 9 babies. 1 in 9 babies are at increased risk of illness, disability and death.

On Saturday 29th July 2017, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Salford City will be supporting the occasion through their high-profile pre-season friendly.
With bragging rights up for grabs between Sky Sports colleagues, Martin Tyler and Gary Neville, join us to see which team will be taking home the silverware.

Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. We rely on donations to fund our work but with one baby admitted to neonatal care every five minutes we don’t have the resources to reach every baby who needs us. Your donation can help Bliss ensure every baby gets the best care.
