Story
Thanks for taking a moment to look at my story!
You might be as shocked to find out as I was that the single biggest killer of males under the age of 45 in the UK is suicide.
I am swimming the channel next August to shed light on this issue and to support CALM (Campaign against living miserably) who are a genuine caring charity that tackle this issue head on. Suicide has affected my family when my great uncle took his own life and it affects many families every year. It seems that in today's society for some reason you must always be "fine" and particularly for men it's the accepted norm to bottle things up and to not talk about things that bother us. What I want to do is swim the channel alone to make sure males out there aren't alone with your support. Just a £26 donation will allow CALM to run their helpline for an hour for those men who need help. A phone call can literally save a life. More than that I just want to encourage men to talk more freely about their feelings without fear of judgement. It's okay not to be okay. To think the most likely cause of death of men my age and above is suicide is something I am determined to change with your help.
Thank you so much for reading my story. I will keep you all posted on my journey down to Dover! Yours swimmingly, Jack Trewick
