Story
Hello! I am the Executive Officer at SarcoidosisUK. Over the past 18 months at the charity I have come into contact with thousands of people suffering from sarcoidosis - on the phone, at our support groups, online and via post. Everyone is affected very differently by the condition, particularly regarding physical symptoms. However the vast majority share a real frustration and anxiety about how little is understood about sarcoidosis (there is no known cause or treatment for sarcoidosis). Ignorance from the medical profession means a lack of effective clinical care while ignorance from the general public means a lack of empathic support from relatives, friends and colleagues. This knowledge gap therefore seriously decreases quality of life for sarcoidosis patients in more ways than one.
SarcoidosisUK exist to fill this knowledge gap. We have quickly grown into the one of the world's biggest sarcoidosis research funders - since 2015 we have committed over £1/3 million to research and have more projects planned for the next few years. Each research project fills the gap by teaching us some key information about sarcoidosis.
Our hope is that one day soon the results of our research will lead to a viable cure for the condition. When we achieve this I will be happy to hang up my SarcoidosisUK boots and go home.
Until then I am putting on running shoes and doing my bit! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, please give generously to such a good cause.
