We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Hi Folks

People who earn their living on, play in, or just visit  the seaside around the UK will know of the work that the RNLI does in saving lives around our coasts. Only last week the RNLI made national news with the rescue of some 30 children and four adults from the sea at Tenby in Pembrokeshire.

I was a 'wee lad' of 3, when I went with my Dad to sea on the Thurso Lifeboat during a practice 'Shout'. Since then, through growing up in this small fishing community, subsequently joining the Navy and today living near and enjoying the Solent, I continue to have admiration and respect for the brave men and woman who venture out, often in terrible conditions, risking their lives to save others.

Today the RNLI, which was founded in 1824, gets no Government funding and totally relies on people making voluntary donations to support its work.  To this end, I have gained a place to run the New York Marathon for the RNLI on 1 November 09 and would really appreciate it you could sponsor me to raise money to help this important charity. All my race and travel costs have been met so every contribution you make, big or small will in some way help to save a life.

I really hope that you can support me in this worthy cause.

Many thanks

Jack

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
