Story

I'm doing the Crochet Challenge for Emilia my beautiful, adorable Granddaughter who died of sepsis, following an undiagnosed strep A infection in March 2020. She’d only just turned 3.

Since then, my family and friends have undertaken many fundraising challenges as part of Team Emilia. Raising awareness of the signs of sepsis especially in young children.  I am no athlete but I can sew, knit and love to CROCHET and with the help and support of friends, I sell our craft items for the UK Sepsis Trust whenever I can.  By raising awareness of the symptoms and passing on the message "Just Ask: could it be sepsis", I feel hopeful that I may prevent another family going through the devastation we have. I love and miss Emilia so much every day. She is always in my thoughts.

Please  support the UK Sepsis Trust if you can, in spreading their message, and hopefully preventing avoidable deaths. I hadn't realised how many thousands are affected by this devastating condition every year – 245,00 with 48,000 of those dying from it – that is 5 lives lost every hour.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
