Back in April 2013 Jackie's sister Claire Crook and husband Justin had a wonderful second edition to their family with the arrival, a little early of William Andrew Joshua Crook.  Before William was born we knew that William had a "mild kidney problem" but unfortunately his problems proved to be a lot more complicated.  William was then treated in 3 hospitals before finally arriving at London's Great Ormond Street.  

After leaving Intensive care, William moved to Eagle Ward for children with kidney issues.  At this point William had survived ECMO (heart and lung bypass) and removal of a large amount of his bowel.  After a couple of month's William had another operation to fit a line for him to have dialysis and then started dialysis 4 times a week.  GOSH gave fantastic support to Claire and Justin and did everything in their power to support them in their medical training to enable them to care for William at home for 36 hour periods on the days when William wasn't on dialysis.  

Unfortunately William took a turn for the worse in April 2014 when Claire noticed he could no longer see, an MRI scan revealed William had gone blind and his brain was not developing.

William was able to come home for his first birthday and was christened at the local church where Claire and Justin were married.  He had such a wonderful smile and captured the hearts of all his family, friends and especially the nurses at GOSH!  This little man endured everything that was thrown at him until finally on the 4th June an infection was just a step too far for William and he sadly passed away.

So many of Claire and Justin's friends are raising money for GOSH in support of the wonderful work that they do.  William's story has a sad ending as in the end William's health problems were just too much for him to bear but during his lifetime and since we never cease to be amazed at the wonderfully generous side of human nature.  

Please help us support the fantastic work that Great Ormond Street do for the poorly children anything you can donate to our fundraising event will be very gratefully received.  Time for us to give something back ..... To help the next families that will call GOSH home for a period of time however short or long.

Our challenge in July this year is to ride 300 miles in 4 days, starting at Chessington and finally arriving 4 days later at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, roughly 80 miles a day. The 3 of us are social riders, if that's allowed in polite conversation! So, this will certainly be a challenge.  I know that whenever the going gets tough, we only need to remember William and the fantastic cause that we are raising money for.
