Story
This year we're attempting to go further than we've ever gone before in the name of charity.
Why?
Ten years ago, I couldn’t climb stairs - having just had my pelvis rebuilt due to hip dyplasia.
Then, in 2014, I lost my right breast, my hair and nearly my life to breast cancer.
And, in so doing, I gained a pair of trainers.
Since then, I’ve never looked back. I know that exercise and movement can change the course of your day and, in so doing, your life.
Exercise is my post-cancer life insurance policy.
And Duncan, my amazing husband, is with me every step of the way (albeit miles ahead).
Having completed three marathons between us (one in a wedding dress on my wedding day), multiple half marathons, lots of 10ks, a trek and a three-mile swim in open water (for me), this year we want to go bigger.
That’s why our challenge is to attempt to complete 2018 activity-based miles as part of a year-long #Milesbetter2018 movement campaign. That means races, cycling and running to work, a 100-mile bike ride, long swims and even a triathlon. That means an exercise habit of epic proportions, not a one-off goal.
And we want to make every step count, raising money and awareness as we go. Our aim is to raise £2,018 for Breast Cancer Care.
This incredible charity lifted me up from day one when I was diagnosed, made me feel like I was never alone, helped me navigate a sea of treatment decisions and strange side effects and reminded me it was ok to not be ok.
Breast Cancer Care is the reason I will never look back, but keep moving forward. And it is for that reason that we will keep fundraising for them for the rest of our lives.
Specific challenges include:
1) Ride London (100-mile cycle)
2) Plymouth Half
3) Blenheim triathlon
4) Vitality 10k
5) Kew 10k
6) Royal Parks Half

If I have learned anything in my life, it is that small steps can make a really big difference.
