Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Doing the Great North Run this year will no doubt be a very challenging time for me. Not just physically, as at 46 I cannot be described as at my peak, but emotionally, as the last time I ran the race in 2011 I knew my step father was waiting at the finish line.
At that point in time he had been suffering with MND since Feb 2010 and we had been told we had between 2 to 5 years left with him. We said we'd take the 5 years but come Sept 2011 when I ran/walked the race for MND awareness he was already in a wheelchair, and could no longer speak or swallow. He passed away just 5 months after the race.
MND is a very cruel illness with no known cure so I'm running the race in my step father's honor in the hope that all the funds raised go towards finding a cure so other families and suffers encounter a better outcome that my own.
