Story
Last year, I decided to set myself the personal challenge of running The London Marathon. Up until that point, the longest run I’d managed was a half Marathon.
But I thought – ok, just do the training Jack, what can go wrong!
The next decision was who to fundraise for. This was more
complicated.
There are literally so many fantastic charities out there! All of
them doing amazing work!
But one quite literally blew me away.
Did you know that over 400,000 children develop cancer worldwide every year?
Every year!?
World Child Cancer is dedicated to improving cancer care in low-income countries, training local healthcare professionals, and advocating for better resources and support systems.
So I decided that my pain would be their gain, and that I would fundraise for them.
However, just running 26 miles and 385 yards, didn’t feel quite enough.
So I decided I had to do more.
So I signed up to take part in Ironman 70.3 Mallorca.
Which will take place 3 weeks after The London Marathon
So on Sunday April 24th,
- I'll run 42km around London
And then 3 weeks later on Saturday May 11th :
- I'll start with a 1900km swim, followed by
- a 90km bike ride ,and then
- a 21km run to finish
All in approx 23 degrees heat in Mallorca.
I want to put my body through all of this to raise a minimum of £3,500.
£3,500 could do so much for this small charity that has set out to support those 400,000 children who develop cancer every year.
So I’m asking anyone who knows me (or my family!) – if you’re able to, please consider supporting me.
If the thought of me doing all that running, swimming and cycling doesn’t make you want to donate (btw, did I mention
that when I signed up to the Half Iron Man, I couldn’t actually swim ….?!) ….. then I hope supporting those children will.
On their behalf, thank you.
