Story
In May this year I will be running the Edinburgh Marathon in memory of Nigel Duffy.
Nige was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer in June 2021 and throughout this treatment utilised Maggie's Centre in Newcastle.
For those that knew Nige, he was very quiet at the best of times and didn't talk about personal matters so the C word was a big no no and often the pressures of what he was facing built up. After many recommendations and a little convincing, Nige visited Maggie's Newcastle.
Nige would go to Maggie's whilst awaiting appointments or for some quiet time away from his day to day pains and stresses. Nige became very fond of Maggie's and would often return home sharing stories of others diagnoses/treatments as well as some of the "blasts from the past" he'd chatted about with other visitors there (often Newcastle United chat, his favourite).
Maggie's helped so much during this extremely difficult time whether it was being able to talk with somebody or helping and advising with the unknowns and uncertainties of what lay ahead. Regardless, the kettle was always on.
I can't thank Maggie's enough for the support they have shown Nige and the family and hope that the donations gathered will go some way to repaying our gratitude for the environment and service they provide.
