Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If you know me, you will realise how passionate I am to support and help Beat, and raise awareness, understanding and challenge stigma in general.

Beat is the UKs eating disorder charity. They are a champion, guide and friends to anyone affected by eating disorders (ED), giving individuals experiencing an eating disorder and their loved ones a place where they feel listened to, supported and empowered.

Eating Disorders are complex and there is no one causative factor. They are insidious and dangerous. One frightening aspect which may surprise many, is that eating disorders have the highest mortality rate out of all mental illnesses.

Having said that the prognosis for those suffering with an eating disorder is good if treatment is available and accessed early on. I didn't get that help for many complex reasons and so have lived with an eating disorder for knocking on 35 years. I am fortunate to still be here so, as long as that is the case, I want to give as much as I can to help prevent a young person go down a smilier route to mine.

I wanted to walk 14 miles but whether I like it or not, need to be realistic in light of my current physical health. Furthermore, my assistance dog in training will be accompanying me, so I need to think of his welfare too.

This year has seen a couple of friends loose their life to this evil disease. That is a list that grows. A painful fact to share.

I am genuinely and infinitely grateful if anyone is able to donate any amount. THIS WILL help towards Beat's vision to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.

If weather conditions are inclement the date will be moved to the 4th March. This is due to my health and the walk being on the coast from Burnham on Sea to Brean. A 7 mile  beach walk. The coast here, when windy is particularly exposed, and I may walk from Brean to Burnham on Sea depending on wind direction.
