Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
In October 2014 a close friend and housemate of ours, Rob Harris was taken ill with what we thought was a slight chest infection. We took him to the hospital in good spirits thinking he'd get a dose of anti-biotics and he'd be fit and healthy in no time. The symptoms did not point to cancer and Rob, his family and ourselves had no idea what was going to occur in the next month.
Rob was a healthy, athletic 21 year old guy who himself claimed never to get ill so it was a shock to all of us when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Within a space of a month of us taking him to hospital Rob had sadly passed away and this left a big hole in all of our hearts.
Jack, Joe and Joni have thought the best way to celebrate his life and raise awareness was to partake in numerous events and raise as much money possible for Male Cancer Awareness Campaign. The campaign is trying to make young men be aware of their body and know if they find anything different to not hesitate to see a doctor. Their website is www.malecancer.org and you can go on here to find out how they help and what they do.
Jack has always felt passionately towards running the London Marathon, and feels that there is no better reason to fulfil that aspiration than to help raise great awareness for young men and cancer, at the same time honouring a good friend. This will be no easy challenge, in itself running 26 miles is extremely difficult but running the London Marathon in a giant testicle suit will undoubtedly harden the task.Joe is local to Hastings, and the Hastings Half Marathon is deemed to be one of the toughest half marathons in the country. Joe has got off lightly and does not have to run in a giant testicle suit although we all know that you would love to see that. However, this is no walk in the park, but its all still for a great cause and he is already thinking about that first pint of cider at the end of the race.
Jack and Joni will be participating in this years 'nut challenge', a 7K military assault course. This will be a gruesome muddy challenge as well as a test of strength especially for Joni who doesn't like mud or sports. They are both looking forward to this event ( Joni not so much) and hoping to raise further charity funds for this very important cause. Hope you can donate generously for this great event going towards a charity close to our hearts.
All donations will be highly appreciated, without a doubt everything we are doing is going towards a great cause and in memory of a true friend taken too soon but never forgotten.
