Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My brother Steve and I are taking part in this years Fred Whitton Challenge, a 112mile cycle around Cumbria, over several of Cumbria's (and the UK's) hardest road climbs. It will be a test of both physical and mental fitness. View the event here: http://www.fredwhittonchallenge.org.uk/route.php
A year ago to the weekend of this years Fred Whitton Challenge, the Great North Air Ambulance were involved in rescuing my Dad from atop the Lake District fells, following a heart attack. The speed and efficiency of the team was amazing. As a comparison, the rest of the party had to continue the 1 hour walk back down to our car (no room for everyone in the 'chopper), and by the time we had reached our vehicle Dad had been tucked up in a hospital bed for 50minutes.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service operates solely from charitable donations. The three helicopters are in operation 365 days a year, covering the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. It takes £4mil a year to keep the choppers and the team running.
