Story
"Oh, you were in care... Is it like Tracy Beaker??"
Yes, it turns out the BBC commissioned a programme to be aired on CBBC, the obvious target audience for a real life documentary about what it's like to grow up in care in the UK...
Oh wait, Tracy Beaker isn't a documentary, it's a programme based on the brilliant Jacqueline Wilson books. As much as I find her books incredible at tackling some heavy subjects in a child friendly way, they aren't filled with facts, figures and advice and support to show what it's really like being in care in the UK.
However, thankfully a charity called the Who Cares? Trust does do just that! And on the 24th of August I am going to be taking part in a charity walk, 50km through London to help raise awareness and support for the Who Cares? Trust. They do a fantastic job at supporting some of the most vulnerable children and young people in care and care leavers and it would be fantastic if you could help them to continue the fabulous work they do!
Also, if you work with children and young people in care, or just fancy learning a bit more than what Tracy Beaker teaches you about the care system, check out their website! http://www.thewhocarestrust.org.uk
Thank you!
