Story
Hi guys, I’m attempting the Cotswold 113 Half Ironman on June 6th, in the memory of Joseph Harris for the Beer-Harris Memorial Trust (BHMT).
I was at school with Joe and he was one of my best friends. His bright and cheerful attitude would always make me smile, and the memory of it still does. So many of my best childhood memories are centred around him. As well as being an exceptional athlete (representing GB as a triathlete), he was an all round, stand out guy. Unassumingly smart, funny and kind. This led to him being a trustee to The Dominic Beer Memorial Charity, later renamed in his honour.
BHMT looks at funding ways to help those with mental health problems and being so important to Joe, makes it important to me. In addition to this, my role in healthcare has highlighted the importance of the BHMT’s work - an invaluable resource to those who need it.
Coming from a rugby playing background, I wouldn’t say I’m built for endurance. However, the challenge of completing (definitely NOT racing) the upcoming Cotswold 113 is one which I’m looking forward to. I would be lying if I said I’m not nervous for the event however I am sure that the memory of Joe’s contagious smile will get me through.
Any donations to this cause would be greatly appreciated.
