We provide information, advice & support to everyone affected by a parents drinking

Story

In May 2018 I discovered a love of running, and by the end of the year I had clocked up nearly 400 miles. Running has already done so much for my health, and in 2019 I want to use it to give something back. My goal in 2019 is to raise money for the National Association For Children of Alcoholics (Nacoa) by running one thousand solo miles - no races, no park runs, no running clubs, just me. As part of this I will also complete a full 26.2 mile solo marathon (date tbc). By opting to do all of these miles solo, I will be representing all of the children and adult-children of alcoholics who feel that they are alone with no one to turn to when confronted with an alcoholic parent. Furthermore, I hope my efforts will help to boost the profile of the Nacoa so that more of those in need of their services can access them.

I will be updating my progress regularly on this page and keeping a training blog (link tbc). You can also follow my live progress on Strava via this link - https://www.strava.com/athletes/30523034

This is an issue very close to my heart and I will be incredibly grateful for any support you can give me. My target is to raise £1000 (£1 per mile).

Nacoa (The National Association for Children of Alcoholics) is a Bristol based charity founded in 1990 to provide help and support for everyone affected by a parent’s drinking. We believe that every child has the right to a happy childhood and to live a creative and meaningful life but when drink is the family secret they are more likely to experience family violence, neglect and other problems in their own homes.

About the charity

1 in 5 children in the UK are affected by their parents' alcohol problems. They are often frightened and isolated, with no one to turn to for help. Nacoa responds by providing a free, confidential telephone, 1-2-1 chat and email helpline.
