Story
On Friday 4th October 2019, a team of 28 abseilers will take the plunge and abseil down the side of the Brighton i360 to raise vital funds for the SCF. For more information contact bsuh.scfadministrator@nhs.net.
I am taking on the abseil in support of my colleague, Annie Broe. Annie is a Conveyancing Assistant who has worked at my firm for over 15 years. As a result of this great campaign, she has recently become a Business Ambassador for the Sussex Cancer Fund, the charity for whom I am raising funds by taking part in the iDrop, and, as a cancer patient herself, she wanted to say a few words in support of my efforts:
“Some things can scare us, some things can challenge us. And some things have the power to do both. Being told you have got cancer, or that the cancer has returned, is amongst them.
“In April 2019 I was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer, which of course is incurable, but with the treatment I am receiving at the Sussex Cancer Centre, I am optimistic that it can be controlled for very many years into the future.
“On the 4th October 2019, Jack Englehart, a solicitor and partner of Engleharts Solicitors, is taking on what most certainly can be described as a ‘scary challenge’; he will be abseiling from the viewing platform of Brighton’s landmark i360, a descent of 531 feet, an event organised by the Sussex Cancer Fund appropriately called ‘iDrop’.
“I am benefiting enormously from not only all that the NHS is providing, but also the facilities and support available through the Sussex Cancer Fund.
“There are, of course, many local charities to support, but I feel that with 1 in 3 people in Sussex (and 1 in 2 nationwide) developing cancer, the Sussex Cancer Fund is the local charity which will probably touch all of our lives at some time.
“To quote from Sussex Cancer Fund’s website:
The goals of the fund are to work hand in hand with the NHS to give all Sussex cancer patients the best available treatment and facilities.
Some of the achievements of the fund in recent years have been to refurbish patient areas, including an area for chemotherapy, clinic rooms, waiting areas, reception and access to the Sussex Cancer Centre.
Jack’s challenge will take moments to complete; the funds you donate will benefit cancer patients for very much longer.
