Story
My story is one of a man who I held very closely in my life. A funny, clever, enigma of a man that I was delighted to have called my father: John David Charles (known to most simply, as “Charlie”).
My Dad had three main loves in his life; his three sons (myself, Scott and David), football and music. However, there was a certain other thing that he also loved a little bit too much-alcohol.
My Dad was an alcoholic, depending completely on alcohol to go about day-to-day life. This came to a head on February 27th this year when unfortunately, he passed away. Losing his hard fought, long term battle with alcoholism.
My Dad however, is far from being alone in this. Alcoholism can come in all ages, shapes and sizes and we all know someone that has been affected by it in one way or another. However, it is never too late to stop ourselves, or anyone in our lives from going down this slippery slope.
This is why, in my Dad’s memory I will be taking part in Sober October this year. I have chosen Alcohol Change UK as my charity as they do vital work with helping those struggling with drinking problems, as well as helping families that have lost loved ones through alcoholism.
All donations towards this great cause would be greatly appreciated. Let’s hope we can raise as much money and awareness before October is through. Thank you!
