Story
As most of you know my son Jack was born with bilateral talipes - Steps were a fantastic support for us when we got the diagnosis. They helped explain the condition and the different treatment processes. They reassured me that Jack will be able to walk and that he should go on to lead a normal life.
At 10 days old Jack had to have his first set of casts that went from the top of his thighs to the tips of his toes on both legs. He went back to Southampton hospital every Tuesday to have his casts removed, his feet manipulated and a new cast applied. After 6 visits he was taken in to hospital to have an Achilles tenotomy operation followed by another cast that lasted for 4 weeks. Once the casts were removed he was given his lucky boots (as I like to call them!) and an abduction brace that was to be worn 23 hours a day for 3 months. After that time he was given the go ahead to reduce to 'part time wear' meaning he only has to have the boots and brace on for 12 hours a day. This will continue until he is 4 with possibly more operations.
Steps helped to make us fully informed about Jack's condition and prepared for all of this so nothing has come as a nasty shock since Jack was born. I am truly grateful to Steps for their support and guidance.
I am also very lucky that I have such supportive and crazy friends and family. They are all taking the time to help us raise some money and to also have a laugh whilst doing so!
Please donate to this brilliant cause & come and support us on the day.
