Story
In exactly six months I will be running the 2023 London Marathon. I am fortunate to have been offered an entry by Mind and feel really proud to be raising money for a charity that I am passionate to support.
Many of us continue to live with feelings of uncertainty, anxiety and depression, that have only been exacerbated by the Covid pandemic, an unstable economy and a government in turmoil. It's a chaotic world and we are rightfully worried about the uncertainty that awaits us.
During these strange times we need those who have fears and worries to speak openly about their mental health struggles, whether that is with a loved one or through professional guidance. Via their platform, Mind provide information and support that can empower people to understand their condition and choices available to them.
We are all still figuring life out, but, unfortunately mental health will continue to be a taboo subject until people feel confident enough to unmask themselves, be vulnerable and seek help. During the 2007-08 recession male suicide rose by 15%, which is a frightening statistic.
My own interest in endurance sport was reignited during the UK lockdown and I have found joy in setting myself goals over the last two years, which has been such a valuable tool for achieving a clearer mindset. The London Marathon is a bucket list item and one that I have always wanted to complete.
Placing all my cards on the table, my personal target will be to complete the run in under three hours and I have now started training towards this goal, with a run around Richmond Park over the weekend.
Appreciating the significant rise in living costs, even the smallest of donations will be really appreciated.
Thank you
Jack
