Last year, as a family we were devastated by the sudden loss of our wonderful cousin Declan. 

Anyone who knew Declan would tell you he was the life and soul of the party. We loved him dearly; he was the man who truly taught us to live, love and laugh.

And yet tragically for reasons we will never understand Declan chose to leave this world.

This loss has left a hole in our lives.  We are still not over the shock of this and still in disbelief.

For this reason The Samaritans is my chosen charity. Declan himself worked for support organisations like this, helping people in their darkest hour.

I don’t want his death to be another mental health statistic. I am running in the hope that something positive can come from this tragedy.

It is so important to speak about mental health and I want people to know that help is out there when you need it.
