Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have decided to take on the cold waters of Loch Lomond in memory of my two uncles, Brendan and Kevin McKelvey, who have both suffered with and died from Amyloidosis.
Amyloidosis is a usually fatal group of diseases caused by the build up of abnormal protein fibres in tissues and organs throughout the body, interfering with their function. Almost any organ can be affected, so symptoms vary greatly and diagnosis can be very difficult.
The Centre's research and development on Amyloidosis have contributed widely to understanding the disease and improved outcomes for patients. The resources provided by UCL Amyloidosis Research Fund continues to make major contributions to alleviating suffering and saving lives among patients affected by this very grave disease.
