Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 12 July 2012 my mother passed away just one month before her eightieth birthday. She had been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic for 15 years. She also suffered from dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, macular degeneration and had an irregular heartbeat. I don’t know whether or not the diabetes contributed to any of these other conditions. She did not smoke, wasn’t a regular drinker, and, for most of her life she was reasonably active. I wouldn’t even describe her as being particularly over weight by today’s standards. By the time she passed away, she was producing little, if any, insulin for herself and during the fifteen years that she was known to be suffering from diabetes, her sugar levels were never really under control.
With an ageing population and increasing cases of obesity, it seems to me that diabetes is likely to affect more and more of us as time goes by. I, therefore, feel that it is in everyone’s interest to find a cure for this condition.
